2:00 to 3:00 Leave the Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Club, travel to Black Squirrel Farms (590 State Route 14, Penn Yan, NY, 14527).

Stop along the way to see a notable Yates County walnut tree. Either:

-Visit a productive English walnut tree on Klaas and Mary-Howell Marten's homestead (1443 Ridge Rd., Penn Yan, New York) and join a group discussion which includes their many years of English walnut experience.

-See a black walnut tree that may be 300 years old at the Rhodes residence (1866 Alexander Rd, Penn Yan, NY 14527), a tree described as the "biggest black walnut tree you ever saw” in a late 1880’s family letter.

3:15 to 4:00 Choose a tour

(Option 1) - Guided tour and discussion “Managing invasive species damage.”
Led by Laura Bailey, Cornell Cooperative Extension - Yates County.

(Option 2) - Self-guided tour: Black Squirrel Farms
Come see how we are approaching small scale wild black walnut processing, learn about the history of black walnut processing and understand why we see black walnuts as the first step in developing a material New York nut industry, shortly followed by hazelnuts as a next step.
